The NT Police Association (NTPA) welcomes the $10 million funding boost announced by Police Minister Nicole Manison and her acknowledgement of the Territory-wide strain the ongoing response to the pandemic is having on resources.

The announcement comes after continuing calls from NTPA President Paul McCue for an immediate funding boost to help resourcing.

Police rosters at all stations across the Territory have been stretched to cover the deployment of staff to Covid-19 duties in Katherine, Robinson River, Binjari and Rockhole communities.

NTPA President said all NT Police members are feeling the strain of working through the pandemic, whether they are covering shifts in Darwin or Alice Springs or standing at Katherine road blocks in 40 plus degree heat

"We welcome the additional funding and want to acknowledge all members who are working extremely hard pulling long hours in trying circumstances to keep the community safe," he said.

"This funding will help the response together with the additional 28 police Constables who graduated from the Police College last night.

The focus on resources together with funding must remain a priority moving into next years budget”, Mr McCue said.
